Polarization-Maintaining Fiber (PMF): A Key Fiber for Advanced Optical Communication and Precision Sensing

With the rapid development of coherent communication, fiber optic gyroscopes, high-precision sensing, and high-speed optical communication, Polarization-Maintaining Fiber (PMF) is becoming increasingly important.


Unlike standard single-mode fiber, PMF uses a specially designed structure to create stable birefringence, allowing the fiber to maintain a stable polarization state even under external disturbances such as bending and temperature changes.

Simply put: standard optical fiber focuses on transmitting light, while PMF also needs to maintain the stability of the light’s polarization state.
